Ready your repulsors for Marvel's Avengers: Iron Man #1, the first prequel comic series before the events of A-Day, where the Avengers must fend off the nefarious Lethal Legion. Flying in this December! Written by @jim_zub Art by @pacodiazcomicartist Cover by Stonehouse #EmbraceYourPowers
A fan favorite! One of Iron Man's unlockable outfits is inspired by his armor in Marvel's Original Sin series from 2014, which saw Tony and Bruce Banner at odds about Tony's role in The Hulk's origins. This armor is immediately recognizable with its striking black and gold coloring. Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. Play the Beta first on PS4. #EmbraceYourPowers #Reassemble #PlayAvengers

#TriviaTuesday: Let's talk armor! Iron Man's armor was originally gray in the comics, but due to printing concerns it was changed to golden yellow for his second appearance. In Marvel's Avengers, the team made sure to find the right balance of his iconic red and gold. #EmbraceYourPowers #Reassemble
The brilliant Tony Stark first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 (March 1963 ) during the Cold War, but it wasn't until Tales of Suspense #48 (December 1963 ) that he debuted the iconic red and gold armor of Iron Man. In Marvel's Avengers, Iron Man's Arc Reactor is housed in a hexagonal shape to give him a modern feel. Crystal Dynamics spent a tremendous amount of time and iteration designing the Iron Man armor. For his iconic armor, we were inspired by Italian motorcycles and supercars, which combine machinery and sleek housing. Our goal was to create a design that looks both functional and believable, but also maintains the classic design DNA. At Crystal Dynamics, we assigned a concept designer with extensive experience in industrial design to create his iconic armor. Using his experience designing vehicles was crucial in shaping the parts and function of the armor. While this is his “base” armor we want it to still look modern. Like traditional Iron Man designs, we kept the classic round inner shape for the Arc Reactor, but then we housed it within a skewed hexagonal shape for a more contemporary look. We spent a considerable amount of time on the rear design of Iron Man as well, because that is what is most visible when playing the game. The shoulders flaps function for flight maneuvering and as air vents for cooling. The venting also provides a dual function as visual feedback to players to show the armor is overheating. The red and gold graphic breakup was a learning process for us, and we designed many concepts based on historical Iron Man designs to come up with the best balance for this iconic armor. We reduced the size of the traditional gold regions of the armor, and distributed the red more evenly across the armor. In addition to the iconic armor, other Iron Man armors will have a wide variety of design breakup and colors that touch on various Marvel designs, as well as some exciting and unique new armors. #EmbraceYourPowers #Reassemble
Iron Man harnesses his armor's functionality - assisting the team and blasting enemies from afar. Powering up his Arc Reactor, Iron Man unleashes his Assault Heroic - the Unibeam - which fires a continuous beam of concentrated muon particle energy that destroys anything in its path. #EmbraceYourPowers #Reassemble
Bringing inventor and tech genius Tony Stark to life - in all his witty glory - is none other than the uber-talented @reallynolannorth Nolan answered a few questions for us on his role as Iron Man. #FollowFriday 𝐐: 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞? Hulk Week isn’t over until we #ThrowbackThursday to one of the coolest cats in the big green guy's…er, big grey guy's past. Banner’s alter-alter ego Joe Fixit trades scruples for extra intelligence, giving him the will and the way to act outside the moral boundaries of both Bruce and The Hulk. That being said, no one can argue against his superior fashion sense, as illustrated in this stylish pinstripe suit. Drawing from over 80 years of Marvel history, Marvel's Avengers includes a wide array of iconic outfits and all-new designs. Some outfits - like Joe Fixit - can be earned & unlocked in-game, and others will be purchasable. Outfits are purely cosmetic, and do not impact gameplay. #EmbraceYourPowers #Reassemble

Let's do some #TuesdayTrivia! Did you know that Hulk's Thunderclap is one of the oldest moves in his playbook? It was first introduced in The Incredible Hulk #004 (1962 ). The jade giant's gamma powered attack is "louder than a jet plane's sonic boom", stunning foes into helplessness. Now, get ready to roar. Hulk's Thunderclap makes the cut in Marvel's Avengers. Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. Play the Beta first on PS4. #EmbraceYourPowers #Reassemble
The last thing on Hulk’s mind is his Super Hero attire, but he does have an “iconic look” – big, green, and intimidating. “For Hulk, the design challenge for the team has been different than the other characters,” explained Creative Director Tore Blystad. “In order to bring something unique to a character with a narrow aesthetic range to draw from, the focus was instead on Hulk’s build. His face has been modeled from our Bruce Banner face, so they share the same facial features.” Hulk's body was modeled after a variety of bodybuilders, pro-wrestlers, and extreme athletes who operate at peak physical condition. To make the exertion of energy and power read well, Hulk is sculpted in a non-flexed approach. This is done to exaggerate and flex his muscles during combat, making his veins and tendons pull beneath the skin surface. Hands and feet are exaggerated in proportion, making his limbs the ultimate weapons of power and strength. Hulk’s classic purple trousers are muted in Marvel’s Avengers, based on real-world dress slacks one would expect a man of science to wear in his daily routine. The goal across all Crystal Dynamics’ character designs is to be recognizable, but unique, something the studio worked closely with Marvel to achieve. ---- Did you miss the Marvel's Avengers global gameplay reveal? Now that you know the basics of Hulk's SMASHing approach to combat, let's dive deeper into his heroic moves. As a refresher, each Avenger has three Heroics - support, assault, and ultimate - that operate on a cooldown timer. Let's start with Hulk's Support Heroic - Boneshaker. When Dr. Banner relinquishes control of the demon within, the result is the catastrophic Boneshaker ability - he repeatedly slams his fists into the ground to taunt all challengers. Hulk draws all nearby enemy attention (aggro ) and is overcome with inner rage that bolsters his defensive strength. Teammates who witness this show of aggression gain their own gameplay buff so they can jump into the fray & fight alongside their gamma-fueled companion. Gamma Rush - Hulk's Assault Heroic - allows him to quickly smash his way through a group of enemies, using his Gamma Rush to become a human battering ram. To add insult to injury, Hulk will grab the first enemy encountered during the attack and slam him into the ground at the end of the charge, inflicting massive damage & staggering nearby opponents. How about Hulk's Ultimate Heroic? Enemies outside of his immediate reach may think they’re safe, but they still have to contend with Hulk’s most powerful attack--the Thunderclap. When Big Green smacks his hands together it unleashes a shockwave of devastating, concussive force. Anything caught in the blast is hurled backwards, flying through the air and clearing a path for Hulk to inflict even more damage to the next wave of combatants. Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. Play the Beta first on PS4.
Last but certainly not least, stuntman @blitzkrieghawx gives Hulk his unstoppable moves - causing mayhem on the motion-capture stage. Marvel's Avengers uses THREE talented actors to bring The Hulk & his brilliant human counterpart to life! First up is industry-icon @officialtroybaker who lends his voice & performance to the contemplative Bruce Banner. Troy answered a handful of questions about the role, and touched on his extensive history as a Marvel fan. #FollowFriday Q: If you could have any super power, what would it be & why? A: Definitely control time. That or turning villains into tacos. Because...I mean, tacos. Q: What is your first memory with a Marvel comic book? A: Traveling with my dad on business trips. No matter what town you can always find a comic book store. I’d read as many books as I could before getting caught & being made to choose between lunch or buying the next issue. I’d read it over & over until my dad came back to pick me up Q: What makes Hulk the most “super” & what makes him the most human? A: Super? Clearly the strongest. CLEARLY. THE. STRONGEST. And human? I feel he struggles the most with the duality that inherently comes with being a Super Hero. More than others he considers the human cost and social impact of his actions. Q: Bruce is often overshadowed by his big green alter-ego. How did you approach voicing Bruce Banner, since you had the ability to focus on just this facet of his personality? A: This story is unique. We really focus on who these people ARE, not just the powers they have. Action is in the explosion but drama is found in the aftermath. Playing Bruce in this space allowed me to explore him as a human and the weight he bears by being such a brutal force. Q: How does your portrayal of Bruce Banner differ than that of previous incarnations of this iconic character? A: Bruce sits at the emotional core of our story. His relationships with the characters, which is often tenuous, spotlights his inner struggle. We’ve carefully crafted an arc for Bruce that simultaneously recalls fan favourite storylines and builds upon them.
Who’s next in our Marvel’s Avengers lineup? None other than the green giant himself! The incredible, unstoppable... HULK! In Marvel’s Avengers the world is Hulk’s for the smashing. Former Nuclear Physicist Bruce Banner trades his genius-level intellect for superhuman strength and durability whenever The Hulk is unleashed to fight alongside his fellow Avengers. Let’s share some #TuesdayTrivia as we focus on the Living Legend Captain America this week! Did you know that Captain America’s modern mask/helmet hybrid - now considered his iconic look - was originally designed by British artist Bryan Hitch during his Ultimates run? A modernized take on the Avengers, The Ultimates would go in to heavily influence future pop-culture interpretations of the heroes. When establishing new aesthetics for the iconic characters, Hitch drilled down to the core of each hero, noting that first and foremost Cap has always been a soldier. As such, Hitch took the classic Captain America look and reinterpreted it with WWII army-issue gear. Marvel’s Avengers followed a similar methodology in Cap’s helmet design - blending cutting edge combat gear with elements of Cap’s classic DNA. Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. Play the Beta first on PS4. #Reassemble #EmbraceYourPowers
Captain America made his first appearance in Captain America Comics #1 (On shelves December 20, 1940 as a symbol of patriotism during WWII. Heroically clad in his iconic star-spangled attire and wielding his shield, he has defended the innocent for the past 78 years. In Marvels Avengers, he continues to fight for freedom, wielding a different yet striking shield and protective body armor. Ready to learn about his new and original look? Check out the below! “In general, our iconic character designs are a contemporary interpretation of the beloved Marvel heroes with an eye towards believability. Within our world, Tony Stark often has a hand in the finishing touches of each suit.” Cap’s suit is based on modern combat gear. Marvel DNA like the star, stripes, and shield are balanced with new elements such as the military name embroidery. The design is a balancing act that pulls from the past to create a modern adaptation of Jack Kirby‘s original designs. “The helmet is built from a strong, protective material and the wing design follows the shape of the helmet rather than extending as in the classic designs. Details like the chinstrap make a practical and believable helmet to wear for a soldier.“ ”The shield has gone through a moderate redesign based on the Marvel’s Avengers story. As the Avengers expand to the West Coast and beyond, Cap needs a shield that represents their new role. The design was modified with a star that reaches further, out of the blue.” “Across all the iconic suits, we aim to be instantly recognizable as the various heroes, yet ownable and distinct. It should be obvious that these are @CrystalDynamics designs, and we have worked closely with Marvel to achieve these goals.” - Creative Director Tore Blystad.
In addition to each Super Hero’s unique combat style & an in-depth combo system, Marvel’s Avengers features special attacks called Heroics. Each Avenger has three Heroics - support, assault; and ultimate - that operate on a cool down timer. Read on for Cap’s Heroics, and yes, we’ve included some epic shield throwing. Support Heroics benefit both the player and the team. Captain America’s support heroic emphasizes his leadership ability causing all targets hit by Cap to temporarily become marked as priority targets for the entire team. Any hero who attacks Captain’s marker targets benefit from increased damage and enhanced health regeneration. Captain America throws his shield with devastating Force where the player activates his assault heroic. Automatically seeking out up to five targets Captain America’s shield will ricochet quickly between enemies and cause a significant amount of stun and attack damage on every hit. Activating Cap’s ultimate heroic - Brooklyn Brawl - will slam his shield into the ground causing a massive Vibranium shockwave, sending most enemies flying. For a short duration after activation, Captain America’s attack damage, impact, and defense will be greatly increased. Heroic attacks are just one of the many layers of complexity that go into each Avenger’s already specialized combat style. Heroic attacks, like many aspects of each hero’s unique playstyle, can also be tweaked, specialized, and improved through a robust gear and skill progression system that allows players the opportunity to make every hero their own. Marvel’s Avengers Will release simultaneously for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. Captain America week continues as we showcase the talent bringing each iconic Marvel's Avengers' hero to life. @JeffSchine tackles the voice & performance of Super-Soldier Captain America. Jeff answered a few questions about this role, & his history with Marvel comics. Read on for his answers! 𝗤: 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲 & 𝘄𝗵𝘆? A: My first memory with a Marvel comic book was a small Iron Man run where he was paralyzed, I think from a gunshot. I remember even as a kid it having an impact on me seeing a Super Hero in such a human condition. 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 “𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿” & 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻? A: I think what makes him human is what makes him super. Yes, he has super strength & agility, but he’s also just a man. He isn’t a god, isn’t a Hulk, he faces everything as a human, vulnerable. It is also his relentless pursuit of trying to do the right thing that I think makes him the most super. The choice to do the right thing, even when it’s the hard thing. 𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 - 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 - 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮? A: Coping with the loss of Cap for the Avengers is difficult. Cap is more than just the leader of the team, he is a symbol. I think the team loses their "North Star" so to speak. And the world as a whole feels this also. Losing a symbol leaves a giant void, it makes you question everything. I think the world loses a little bit of hope when that is taken from them. 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗹’𝘀 𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀? A: I am most excited for people to step into the boots of a hero & make them their own. I'm also excited for them to see our interpretations of each hero. I think fans will really latch onto the story.
